Structure & non-for-profit principles

East Clare LETS is an unincorporated Association under the sponsorship of East Clare Community Support LTD., Scariff, as part of the Community Development Program.

It operates on a non-for-profit basis and upholds a cost-of-service ethic.

In other words: fees and charges in Euro or LETS units are applied to cover cost only and kept as low as possible. They may change according to the dynamic of what is available on LETS or has to be paid for in cash and the number of members.

LETS must cover its own setting up and running costs, like basic equipment, webhosting charges, postage, printing/fotocopying of the Directory and Newsletter, stationary, rent, affiliation fees and wages (usually in LETS units) etc.

The budget is raised through membership and annual renewal fees in Euro and small transaction charges on members’ accounts in LETS units.

Additional income can be obtained through advertising, fundraising activities, donations and possibly grant aid.

LETS staff keeps tab of your trading activity through accurate accounts, which are published to members at regular intervals. LETS running cost/system accounts will be presented by the Treasurer at Annual General Meetings (AGMs).
